S-IMEW gave me the exposure to completely new facets of geology that I had never seen before. My fondest memories of S-IMEW were participating in learning experiences with like minded individuals who were excited to develop their careers as much as I was.

S-IMEW helped kickstart my passion for the mining industry. I value the learning opportunities, the exposure to mining professionals, and the relationships I built (and continue to grow!) while attending S-IMEW.

My fondest memory of S-IMEW was the networking opportunities. Although the in class and hands on activities were exemplary, the networking opportunities truly stood out for me. Throughout the entire S-IMEW experience there were endless opportunities for students to network with career professionals from a vast range of backgrounds. With such a tightly knit mining and geoscience community, networking is ever so important. S-IMEW really provided that push out of my comfort zone which helped develop my networking skills and create some valuable long lasting relationships

Though all of S-IMEW is a fond memory for me, my fondest memory is of mapping volcanic stratigraphy at the Horne West outcrop with Dr. Harold Gibson from Laurentian University. This was my first real exposure to volcanic rocks and to Harold, and I loved it so much that I went on to pursue a Masters and now a Ph.D. in volcanology supervised by none other than Harold himself. Were it not for S-IMEW I would not have met Harold, and likely never realized my passion for volcanology.

S-IMEW was an outstanding opportunity to interact with all facets of the mineral exploration industry, from specialist insights to practical hands-on experience. Being able to network with a group of people who all share a passion for Earth Sciences was so liberating. After all, without the community, we'd all be weirdos rambling about rocks. My fondest memory was cruising around Sudbury in the Anne-Van with a group of strangers who quickly became friends I still keep in contact with today.

Attending S-IMEW was a transformative experience that bolstered my career as a professional geoscientist. Beyond the theoretical aspects, the hands-on experience gained during the workshop allowed me to refine my skills and apply them to real-world scenarios. Moreover, the lasting connections forged with industry experts and fellow attendees have proven invaluable, opening doors to collaborative opportunities, mentorship, and professional growth. S-IMEW not only enriched my expertise but also expanded my professional network, making it a milestone in my career journey as a geoscientist.
